The Lower Valley Community Concert Association has been bringing live entertainment to South Central Washington since 1947: that’s over 200 performances in 65 seasons. National and international musicians have performed in a wide variety of genres including classical, country, folk, jazz, and Broadway. Comedy and gymnastics have also been popular during the series, which usually included five events from fall through spring. Many of the performers have done extra performances or workshops for students. Volunteers run the association, keeping the ticket prices reasonable. At one time the concerts were held in a school gym but now are in the Sunnyside High School Auditorium, which was recently renovated with comfortable seats, new lighting, and improved acoustics. Reciprocal agreements with other community concert associations have allowed season ticket holders to attend concerts in other communities for no cost. The association has done an excellent job bringing cultural events to the Yakima Valley.
